Our Focus

Care Through Tech, a federally-recognized non-profit organization, aims to enable equitable access to technology and essential online resources. By supplying smartphones and laptops to the underserved populations across Ontario and Quebec, we hope to narrow the widening disparities. However, this idealism cannot become a reality without YOUR support.

Mission & Vision

Our Story

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, technology has advanced immensely in Canada. With healthcare, educational, and social services transitioning online, smartphones and laptops have become a necessity. While this is improving our quality of lives, we tend to forget that the quality of lives of those who cannot afford devices are being negatively impacted. For instance, primary care practitioners are noticing an increasing prevalence of inadequate chronic disease management in underserved populations that resulted from the implementation of telemedicine. Care Through Tech recognizes that specific marginalized community members have limited access to essential online resources and services.

What We Collect

Phones

Tablets

Like smartphones, tablets (ex. iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, etc.) are multipurpose, while also providing an alternative to computers. Rather than assigned to an individual, these tablets are intended to be shared resources within a shelter.

Like with phones, please at least remove any pin/password and logout of any account associated with the phone, especially admin accounts.

Tech Accessories

There are many other accessories that would help tech users work their devices! These include wall chargers, portable chargers, batteries, USB wall chargers, end adapters, phone cases, and safe carrying devices (ex. phone pouches). If donating an accessory, please indicate what type(s) of device(s) it is compatible with, if possible!

Other Devices

In regards to our current target population (people experiencing poverty and homelessness), phones and tablets are the most useful devices. However, as we expand, we are working with many different types of shelters that could use many different types of devices. We'd had requests for computers, Kobo book readers, and more! As usual, please wipe off any information!

Phones

In our tech era, phones are one of, if not the main way we communicate with one another. We are accepting any phones, from smartphones, to flip phones, and anything in between. Please remove your SIM cards from the phones & at least remove any pin/passwords and of any account associated with the phone, especially admin accounts. If possible, please unlock the phone from your carrier (this is free to do with your carrier! More info above.)
